Three Cougars make All-District Baseball (5/5/17)
The Class 2A-District 4 Baseball Team was announced today and three MIC baseball players were named to the squad.  Senior Steven Williams and sophomore Chandler Dwyer were both 1st Team All-District selections while senior Garrett McCabe was a 2nd Team All-District selection.  Williams, a pitcher/infielder for the Cougars, hit .542  with 18 RBI and 17 runs scored.  Williams also racked up a 5-1 record on the mound with an ERA of 0.77.  Dwyer, also a pitcher/infielder, hit .342, scored 14 runs, and had 6 stolen bases while posting a 3-1 record with a 2.47 ERA on the mound.  McCabe, an outfielder, hit .358 wiht 11 RBI and 13 runs scored.  Both Williams and McCabe were All-District selections in 2016.

Cougars fall in district semifinals to City of Life (5/3/17)
The MIC baseball team fought hard, but came up short in their quest for a district title on Wednesday in Fort Pierce, but not before mounting a furious rally in the top of the 7th to keep the game going.  Down 4-3 with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the top of the 7th with the tying run at 2nd base, senior Garrett McCabe fouled off several pitches before drawing a walk.  With Senior Sam Stephenson at the plate, the City of Life catcher attempted to pick off McCabe from 1st base but his throw sailed into right field allowing Williams to score the tying run.  Moments later, Stephenson hit what appeared to be a run scoring single to center, but City of Life second baseman Isaiah Montes made an incredible backhand play and proceeded to throw out Stephenson at 1st base for the final out.  City of Life Christian Academy’s JJ Perez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th to score the winning run, breaking a 4-4 tie.  Senior Trey Houlberg suffered the loss for the Cougars despite surrendering only one hit over 2 2/3 innings in relief of Steven Williams who had to depart from the mound after he was hit by a pitch while batting in the previous inning.  It was the final high school baseball game for 8 MIC seniors.  The Cougars finish the 2017 campaign with a 12-10 overall record.

Aguilo-Seara, Moyers advance to state tennis tournament (4/4/17)
MIC’s doubles team made up of sophomore Francisco Aguilo-Seara and senior Pierce Moyers won the district doubles competition and advance to the FHSAA State Tennis Tournament in Orlando on April 24-25.  Aguilo-Seara also won the #1 boys singles competition and advances to the state tournament in singles play as well.

Dwyer pitches Cougars past HEAT (3/28/17)
MIC sophomore Chandler Dwyer allowed only one hit in six innings of work while senior Steven Williams went 2-3 with 4 RBI as the Cougars defeated Brevard HEAT 9-2 on Monday night.  MIC improved to 5-4 overall, 5-3 in district play.  The Cougars host Geneva at 5:00 pm on Friday.

Tennis teams top Palm Bay H.S. (3/27/17)
The MIC boys and girls tennis teams claimed 5-2 victories over Palm Bay on Monday afternoon.  For the boys, Pierce Moyers, Cameron Rye, Jack Stallone, and Noah Portanova won singles matches for the Cougars while the doubles team of Moyers and Stallone was also victorious.  For the girls, singles winners were Shanata Norwich, Angelina Caswell, Anya Warren and Grace Stallone while the doubles team of  Caswell and Stallone also won.

Lady Cougars win big over Brevard HEAT (3/24/27)
The Lady Cougar softball team defeated Brevard HEAT by a score of 21-8  on Friday afternoon in Palm Bay to improve to 3-2 on the season.  Tied 7-7 heading into the 3rd inning, the Lady Cougars scored 3 runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Sidney Toukonen pitched a complete game for the victory on the mound.

Williams K’s 13 in win over Master’s (3/24/27)
Senior pitcher Steven Williams pitched a complete game 2-hitter with 13 strikeouts while going 2-3 at the plate in the Cougar baseball team’s 4-2 victory over Master’s Academy of Vero Beach on Friday evening.  Down 2-0 in the 4th inning, senior Isaac McCarver hit a 2 RBI double to tie the game.  Senior outfielder Mac Scott’s RBI groundout in the 5th inning proved to be the the winning run.  The Cougars are now 4-4 on the season, 4-3 in district play.

Whitley receives Burlsworth Character Award (2/24/17)
MIC senior football player Tim Whitley recently received the Burlsworth Character Award honoring character and sportsmanship in high school football.  The award honors the player who represents the ideals and values that Brandon Burlsworth had: to give 100 percent on the field and to stand as a moral example to his team.  For more information on the Burlsworth Character Award, go to www.burlsworthcharacteraward.com


Cougars claim a walk off win in season opener (2/21/17)
The MIC baseball team rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the 7th inning to claim a 5-4 victory over Brevard HEAT in the season opener for the Cougars.  Ben Brode scored the winning run on a passed ball and Chandler Dwyer pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts for the win on the mound.

Lady Cougars win season opener (2/17/17)
The MIC softball defeated Brevard HEAT on Friday night by a score of 11-6 in the debut of first year head coach Michelle Phillips.  Sidney Toukonen scored 3 runs and also pitched a complete game for the Lady Cougars.  MIC scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning to break a 2-2 tie and take a lead that they would not relinquish.  The Lady Cougars play again at home on Tuesday, February 21st at 5:00 pm vs. Master’s Academy of Vero Beach.
