Mrs. GartrellSecondary Principal
I was born in Ashland, Kentucky, an only child of two remarkable parents who raised me in a loving Christian home. My childhood sweetheart, Larry, and I have been married since college graduation and we have been blessed with a wonderful daughter, Lindsay, who is a graduate of MICS and is now a graduating senior at the University of Central Florida. After receiving my B.A. in Education from Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky, my teaching career began at Newport, Kentucky where I taught for seven years before moving to Ft. Lauderdale. Teaching Gifted Science for 16 years (both Biology and Chemistry) was my passion before moving to Merritt Island and into school leadership. During my years in south Florida, I also earned a Masters in Business Administration and Health Sciences from the University of Miami, Miami, Florida and through the years have studied at the University of Cincinnati as well as the University of Central Florida. As my 9th year at MICS begins, my goal as secondary principal is to provide an arena in which students can excel both academically and spiritually. At MICS we focus on the student’s relationship with Jesus Christ and instructing with a Biblical world-view. It is hard to remember a time when I did not have Jesus in my life as my Lord and Savior since I accepted Him into my heart at a young age. It is important to me that, as teachers and administrators, we are all examples to our students in our daily walk with Jesus Christ.
