Superintendent Welcome

I would like to welcome you to the 2011 school year at Merritt Island Christian School. At MICS we believe that all students will learn well and acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become Christian leaders of tomorrow. The foundation of this leadership is the connection between God, home and MICS. This connection is strengthened by our professional, caring and godly teachers, staff, administrators and school board ministry team.

Possessing knowledge is not enough for our students to succeed in the real world or in their Christian life. One must possess the following core values and apply them in a consistent and ethical way. MICS maintains a definite set of core values: to foster respect, to display a Christ-like character, to create a Biblically-based curriculum, to create leaders, and to create a servant-minded attitude. It is MICS’s desire to help students develop the understanding that the rewards of life come only through following the godly guidelines of fostering respect, displaying a Christ-like character and creating a servant-minded attitude.

MICS would like to invite you to visit our newly renovated and updated computer lab. The renovations and upgrading were made possible through generous donations from friends of the David Yassa family. This is MICS’ living memorial in honor of David, a former sixth grade student who was lost through a tragic accident last year. Tony Venable, MICS’ IT, has worked diligently in bringing to MICS the latest and best of the N-Computing X-series devices. We are blessed to offer this new lab to our students and blessed to have it named after one of our beloved students. We set a goal of $25,000. We are presently just $5,000. short of that goal. If you would like to donate money in memory of David Yassa for the computer upgrade project, please send a check made payable to: MICS – specifying the David Yassa Fund. Checks may be sent to Merritt Island Christian School, Attention The David Yassa Fund, 140 Magnolia Ave., Merritt Island, Florida 32952. The Yassa Family will be made aware of your donation, unless you desire to remain anonymous.

I would like to make you aware of a Program Evaluation that I conducted at MICS to determine the effectiveness of the Six Traits of Writing on our elementary students. The abstract and full evaluation is available at the following link DISSERTATION FINAL.doc

MICS’s blueprint for the future is our Strategic Plan, which you can view under the “About Us” section on this website.

Our desire at MICS is to positively connect with each of you. Together we can create constructive and relevant changes for the growth and advancement of MICS.

In His Service,

Dr. Nanci A. Dettra
