My Education:  I received my BS in Physical Education, with a minor in Bible and Biology from Biola University in Los Angeles in 1988. I am certified to teach History, English, Math, and Science for grades 5-9.  I am also certified to teach Health and Physical Education.

My Background: I grew up in a small logging community in Washington state about 30 miles east of Mt. St. Helens.  A friend invited me to youth group when I was in high school and I accepted the Lord as my Savior and I have served Him ever since that day in 1979.

In high school, I played volleyball, basketball and softball, but excelled and concentrated on softball my junior and senior years of high school.   After high school, I attended Grays Harbor College in Washington State for two years on a softball scholarship.   Our team won the small college national championships for the two years I attended and played. After two years, I transferred to Biola University, a Christian university in Los Angeles, where I met my husband Tom.  We were married in the summer of 1989.

I began my education career teaching Biology at West Covina High School, right outside Los Angeles.   I was also the Head Varsity Softball Coach.  After teaching for one year in Southern California, God called my husband to be an assistant pastor in a little town 3000 miles away in Merritt Island, Florida.   We picked up and moved a crossed the country, and have lived here for the past 22 years.   Since moving to Florida, I have taught at Jackson Middle School in Titusville, Edgewood Junior/Senior High School, and most recently, spent 8 years teaching and writing science curriculum for Florida Virtual School.

We have 3 children, who also attend MICS; Caleb, Lucas and Emily.

My Position at MICS: This is my 23rd   year teaching and my 3rd  year teaching at MICS.  Prior to teaching at MICS, my teaching experience has been in the public schools.   I am currently teaching Middle School Life Science, Forensic Science, and Geography.

My Interests:  I love to cook and bake for my family.   I enjoy traveling with my family, as we have spent vacations in Washington and California with our families.   I also enjoy watching my kids in their music and sports activities.

My Faith and Learning Statement:

While attending Biola University’s School of Education, I felt a call on my life to teach in the public school system.   I have always had the desire to teach young people Science and incorporate God as the Creator into the Science Curriculum.   The last 20 years of teaching have been amazing, as God has allowed me to do many things, such as write science curriculum for an online public school.  Our children attended MICS, while I continued to work in the public school system, and as time passed, my love for MICS and Christian education grew.

Then my role changed as God opened the doors for me to work at MICS.   I consider it a privilege to be able able to weave God’s word through Science and Geography to the students at MICS.
