My Education: I started my young years at Pensacola Christian School which proved to be an extreme blessing for my future, professionally speaking. Ten years there truly taught me the Bible and its futuristic revelations that are now and will be occurring. It wasn’t until I spent many years teaching in the public school system that I realized just how fortunate I was to have gone to PCS because as a child the appreciation just isn’t there until tested later on in life. Thank you God for sending me there! My college years were spent at PensacolaJunior College, University of West Florida and the great Florida State University. I have a BS Degree in Physical Education, Health and am currently adding Science to my certification. Life Skills, Human Sexuality and ESOL were my ‘public school’ areas of teaching for the last six years. I love and cherish every day that I have the privilege to be in a middle school classroom with such awesome students, whether they be public or private ‘babies’. I can’t imagine doing any other type of work than to be with the ‘kids’!
My Background: I proudly claim to be Navy, as I was born at Pensacola Naval Air Station and spent my entire young life on the beautiful beaches of Northwest Florida. It’s nice down here, but yes I do miss being on the Gulf waters and enjoying four distinct seasons. My father was a career Naval Chief, who after retiring spent 15 years teaching ROTC as a second career and my mother was the sweet and gentle support raising my two big brothers as Daddy was away on the ships. I showed up 10 years later and pretty much felt like I had four different parents tending to my best interests. Thank God for ‘meddling’ big brothers! It’s because of my precious family that I am who God wants me to be today as I anxiously lift others up to learn of His love.
My Position at MICS: This year I get to enjoy Marine Biology/ Ecology with 9th through 12th graders, Physical Science with 7th and 8th graders, Health/ Phys Ed class with 9th graders and then burn the calories off with 7th and 8th grade Phys Ed – Yes!!! Hope they’re ready for the challenge! This will be my 20th year teaching. My first 14 years were with Public schools and now starting my 6th year here will complete the BIG 20! Love it!!
My Interests : Right now in this stage of my life, I enjoy learning as a parent how best to serve my child Claire and my husband Duane. Every single day I thank God for giving me such a unique gift from Heaven and for a husband who knows how to put up with me (ha,ha). We love to travel and camp, relax at the beach, and snow ski every few years. Never did I expect such inner peace and happiness at this stage of the game, but when we humble to the Lord’s ways, He shows us how to truly respect His gifts and to appreciate blessings undeserved.
My Faith and Learning Statement: If I’d of known back when I was young at PCS, what I understand now about our world and our Creator’s desire for us, life would have a been a whole lot simpler. God gives me the strength and desire to share His love with my students, and my prayer is for all my students to grow closer to our Lord through all my daily deeds and words. May He empower me to say exactly what their hearts need and desire from Him.
