EDUCATION: Graduating from the University of NC
at Greensboro in 1997, Lizzy Brannan has earned degrees in Choral Education and
Vocal Performance. This is her 7th
year in the chorus classroom , as she has taught middle school in the
inner-city Nashville public school system and R.J. Reynolds High School in
Winston-Salem NC. With 5 different
chorus types, she ran a choral program
of over 100 students, travelling, competing, and preparing large concert and
musical productions. This will be her 9th
year teaching private voice students. Her students have competed and placed in
several competitions
throughout NC and FL.
Many have gone on to major in voice, some with partial or full
scholarships.
BACKGROUND: Growing up in a home of degreed musicians, she
always knew she would teach and sing.
When she was younger, she and her sister would line up their stuffed
animals on the steps, like a choir, pop in their Daddy’s choir tapes, and
conduct those toys until they sang it right! Loving every aspect of music, she
pursued learning many different genres , and to this day, believes in the
importance of teaching a variety of styles.
Also, growing up, she was immersed in Musical Theater, leading her to
many professional performance opportunities .
After realizing that God’s dream for her was to edify the lives of
others to a deeper relationship with Christ through music, her desires for a
professional career in singing were put to rest. Instead of wanting what the world had to
offer, she now LOVES pouring her time into the lives of students through music.
POSITION AT
MICS: Lizzy Brannan is the Choral Director and Private Voice Teacher at MICS.
INTERESTS:
She is gratefully married to Scott Brannan, Minister of Media at FBCMI. She has been blessed with 2 children ,
Solomon (10 yrs.) and Lily (8 yrs.), with whom she adores spending time! Outside of her relationship with Christ,
family is her number one priority and favorite hobbie. She loves to curl up with a stout cup of
Starbucks and her Bible at 5:30 every morning to fellowship with her heavenly
Father. Studying the Word has been a
cornerstone in who she is as a person. Additionally, she and her husband love
fitness and running and will be competing in a half marathon this year.
FAITH AND LEARNING
STATEMENT:Through her experiences ,she has since believed
wholeheartedly that the goal is so much more than learning the music. It is now the changed life that moves
her. It is the deeper walk with Christ
that is the focus. As she continues to
teach here, she longs to make each learning environment a sanctuary; one that
will draw each student’s attention toward their Savior.
