Mrs. Halcom's Web Page
My Background: I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida when I was 2 years old. I grew up right on the beach of Cocoa Beach in a strong Christian family. Both my parents, as well as my sister, have been wonderful examples of loving the Lord with all your heart. Growing up during the Space Coast boom, I was able to witness all different kinds of rockets lift off. There were astronaut parades and presidential visits. This was such an unusual time unlike ever before. I spent a lot of time on our family boat and in the ocean. How cool! I graduated from Cocoa Beach High School with my major interest being in education. College was great, difficult and rewarding. I loved it! After college graduation from FSU, I met the most wonderful man, Mr. Halcom, and I married him 25 years ago. I still think he is wonderful. We had three fantastic children; Laura Kay, Lisa and Sam. They are each truly a delight and a gift from God. My Position at MICS: I am in my 15th year at MICS. During that time I have taught Elementary Art with a Fine Arts curriculum. It has to be the best job ever! Every student wants to be here and no one wants to leave. My Interests: I enjoy the sun, the beach, the sand, and the breeze. The Beach is definitely my happy place! I love to laugh. I am interested in all kinds of music. Old movies capture me. I love New York City and all the energy it holds. I can spend hours at a museum or at a park. Someday I would love to visit Europe and have the opportunity to see all there is to see! My Faith and Learning Statement: I believe that Love is the most important element in the classroom. The Love of Christ living through me will reach the students in ways that are beyond the lesson for the day. To love the individual that God made, to instruct them and to care for them is a serious responsibility I carry throughout their many years in elementary art. The three rules in the Art room are to … Be Kind, Be Careful and Be Creative! These rules affect their attitude, their behavior and their individuality. One of my goals for the students is to learn to love and love to learn! It can be life changing. The avenue of art to grow in Christ personally and spiritually is amazing.
