Mr. Cottrell's Web Page
My Education: I prepared for teaching with a BA in History in 1976 from Shelton College, then in Cape Canaveral, Florida. In 2000, I received a second BA in Organizational Business Management from Warner Southern College in Lake Wales. I also received a Master of Divinity in 1981 from Faith Theological Seminary in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. I started at MICS teaching 5th grade for two years and then as the secondary school was developed I started teaching history and social science. My Background and Faith Statement: I was led to the Lord at age four by my mother during family devotions. I grew up in an excellent independent church. My inspirations to go into ministry were my grandfather, Charles Cottrell, a very fine lay minister, and my Pastor, John Ashbrook. I felt called to go into Christian education during my college years and since I felt called to teach Bible, it made sense for me to go to seminary to continue my training. I have taught history and Bible at Christian schools for 25 years and the Lord has really blessed me with some remarkable students and experiences that continue to enrich my life daily. A number of years ago, through the leading of the Holy Spirit, I began a program of teaching Apologetics and Ethics to seniors to better prepare them for the future. One highlight of my time here was the opportunity to travel to Russia in 1996 to teach ethics to Russian school teachers. My Position at MICS: I have had the privilege of teaching here at MICS for the twenty years. After a number of years, I finally settled in to my real love which is teaching Bible to middle and high school students. During most of my years at MICS I have coached middle school basketball and soccer and was able to initiate the varsity soccer program here at MICS. My Interests: I try to keep active both in and out of school. I teach Sunday school and lead the orchestra at First Baptist Church Merritt Island. Outside of church and school I enjoy reading, golf and music with a special interest in jass and jazz rock. I love to travel and enjoy doing new things. Most of my time away from work is spent with my wife Sue and my three sons, Jeremy, Jason and Joshua. All three are MICS graduates.
