ART
Art is part of the weekly curriculum in the elementary grades. Through hands-on experiences, students learn the seven elements of art: line, texture, shape, form, space, and value. Students practice these design elements through a variety of mediums including papier-maché, watercolor, oil pastels, artist chalk, charcoal, and artist clay. Middle school students may take art on the "wheel" or may take a full year. This course incorporate art appreciation as well as the completion of design-based assignments using a variety of mediums. High school students are offered a variety of classes in studio art. Photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture are all taught at different levels. Students have the opportunity to show their work in various venues throughout the year. For the more serious art students, advanced placement courses are offered that allows them to earn college credit.
