High School Graduation Requirements and Course Mapping

Recognizing that God created every person with unique talents and gifts, the academic program of study at MICS has been developed to challenge each student and to meet the needs of each student. For this reason, students and parents have the opportunity to choose a specific academic course load that best challenges the student.

To qualify for the Honors Diploma, a student must have met all of the High Academic Diploma requirements and have been admitted to honor level classes for three consecutive years. Additionally, the student must have passed all honors classes, maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA. 

 

COURSE MAPPING:

Students will select courses in the core areas of Bible, Math, Science, Social Studies and English, which are in line with their selected diploma, which can include honors, AP and dual enrollment.

Honors / Advanced Placement Prerequisites/ Dual Enrollment

Students seeking to take Honors and/or Advanced Placement (AP) and/or Dual Enrollment classes must meet minimum prerequisite requirements.  Prerequisite requirements are designed to ensure each student has met the appropriate standards to achieve maximum success in all classes taken.  The honors teacher and high school principal may make exceptions only after a review of the student’s complete academic record.

 

  1. Grades: A in the previous year's standard course or B in the previous year's honors course.

  2. Test Scores:  Must be in the 85% percentile on standardized test (Stanford, PSAT, SAT, or ACT). 

  3. Any student who wishes to take an Honors or AP class must receive a teacher recommendation.

  4. The student, parent, teacher and principal must complete the Honors/AP agreement before the first day of class.

  5. Some Honors and AP classes have additional prerequisites that must be completed before placement will be granted.

  6. Dual Enrollment students must meet minimum CPT scores for placement in dual enrollment classes.

We offer the opportunity to Dual Enroll at Brevard Community College and work toward an AA Degree to be completed upon high school should the student wish to do so.

Not only do offer Dual Enrollment English on our campus, but students may enroll for any Dual Enrollment class of their choice for which they qualify.
